On Tuesday, September 3rd, the Western Albemarle cross country teams competed in the Ragged Mountain Cup at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, VA. This unique season-opening event features relay teams of four members, each running two miles. Both the boys and girls took home team titles. The winning boys team consisted of Gannon Willcutts, Nathaniel Hashisaki, Trevor Stutzman, and Andrew deJong. The winning girls team consisted of Annie Taylor, Averi Witt, Alice DuCharme, and Chance Masloff. The boys took 1st, 3rd, and 9th in the relays and the girls took 1st, 4th, and 14th. The relay races were only the start to a great day of racing. Soon after the relays ended, the open race took off. Western Albemarle runners, many in their first races ever, ran strong and competed well. It was a great way to open the season for both teams.
