Friends of Western Albemarle Cross Country, Track and Field exists to support our teams with funding and volunteers. We welcome team members, parents, alumni and community supporters. Go Warriors!
The Western Albemarle High School running programs are widely respected for a long history of excellence, achieved through discipline and hard work and our supportive culture. We mentor, encourage and push each other and celebrate personal bests. We truly are a family.
Since our creation, we have provided stipends for our unpaid assistant coaches, who teach and encourage our athletes every day after school and often on weekends at meets. In addition, Friends worked with the developers of Old Trail Village across the street from the high school to establish new, permanent running trails which are used on a daily basis by our teams as well as the community as a whole for walking, running and even mountain biking. The course was name The Lindy Bain Loop, in honor of our long-time current boy’s coach.
Because of our advocacy, the deteriorated outdoor track at the high school was replaced in the summer of 2012, allowing our teams to host their first outdoor track meet in 5 years in the spring of 2013. In addition, Friends was able to purchase a used pole vault pit from the University of Virginia in the summer of 2012, replacing our ancient pit.
In 2013, Friends provided stipends to assistant coaches and was able to fund the construction of a new throwing cage for discus and shotput. In the fall of 2013, Coach Bain requested a second team tent to accommodate our growing cross country and outdoor track teams. We hope this tent with the team name on it will arrive in time for the final meets.
Friends became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 2010, so all donations are tax deductible. We hope you will use our donation page to help us continue to support the cross country, track and field teams at Western Albemarle High School.
